Halloween is the obvious choice to have a sexy costume party, as it’s the one day out of the year when fun-loving adults can play dress up without feeling embarrassed. If you will be hosting a costume party, first delegate. It’s almost impossible to enjoy yourself at your own party if you have to do everything yourself. Assign some friends or family members specific duties, such as keeping food and drinks stocked up, having another responsible for the music, and a third to make sure everybody stays safe – keeping the phone nearby to call a cab, knowing where the first-aid kit is, and pointing out to you if a guest is a little too rowdy. (If that happens, gather together that person’s friends to help calm him or her down.)

Also, let your neighbors know about your party – too often, parties end up crashing by an irritated neighbor phoning the cops. If you know them well enough, invite them as well so they don’t feel left out! Check your local city bylaws for noise levels – usually things have to quiet down by around eleven. If that’s the case, plan for most of your activities from nine to ten thirty, progressively turning the music to an acceptable level when eleven closes in.

To keep your party planning organized, you can either think of a certain theme to give people ideas of how to dress, or have a general free-for-all. Think of your guests – does everybody know each other, and are they comfortable wearing a little spicy? If you are confident of this, a general invitation to your friends to dress in something sexy and come have some fun should be enough.

However, choosing a theme will give your guests more comfort in wearing a sexy costume. This is because all your guests will know that everybody will be dressing in similar outfits, reducing the chances of someone being too embarrassed if they don’t like standing out. This helps if you will be inviting people who do not know each other.

A theme also helps you organize your party, as you can tie all your decorations, food and activities around a centralized, common plan. Here are some theme ideas:

A Sexy Party

Yes, sexy itself can be a theme. Tell your adult guests to dress in their sexiest – this way you will have a great variety of costumes. Those who are shy will likely wear something less revealing than others, but that’s okay, as you want all your guests to feel comfortable and have fun. Depending on expectations, you can make the atmosphere soft and sensual or wild and energetic. If romantic, go for low lights and soft music. If wild, go for black lighting, pulsating strobe lights and throbbing music.

Food choices can include chocolate, fruit, champagne and appetizers that couples can feed to each other. Cocktails (a dirty word in itself!) are often raunchy names anyway: Screwdriver, Slippery Nipple, Between the Sheets, Pink Lady, etc. Other sexy party ideas include:

Have nametags and markers ready, and ask each of your guests the name of their first pet and the name of the street they grew up in – this will be their stripper name for the evening!
Play musical chairs, but the men are the chairs
Twister or strip poker (old favorites!)
Truth or dare (come on, who doesn’t want to revisit their precocious teenaged years one more time?)

Having a hot tub is a plus, or a pool where your most adventurous guests can skinny dip after midnight!

Sexy Underwater Fantasy

Decorate your house in fabrics of green, aquamarine, and blue. Props can include treasure chests, fish, starfish, tridents, Davy Jones’ lockers, sunken shipwrecks and sand. Seafood such as oysters and shrimp is on the menu (include alternatives to those allergic to fish), and drinks can include any naughty water-themed recipes – Sex on the Beach, Tequila Sunrise and Wet Dream are a couple that come to mind. Print your decorations showing an underwater theme, and state that you will be invoking all the sexy creatures and gods of the deep. Sexy costume ideas include mermaids, bikinis or swimming shorts, any Greek god or goddess, sailors, pirates and tavern wenches. Having a pool or hot tub is a definite bonus!

Sexy Storybook Party

Turn your house into a gothic fairytale. Include browns and reds, with castle banners, dragon figurines, whimsical magicians and pictures or props of hunky princes and lurid damsels in distress. An excellent touch is a full-length or gothic mirror. Guests will dress as a spicy version of their favorite storybook character, such as Little Bo Beep, Goldilocks, nymphs and devils. Ideas for guys include a naughty or nice prince, a satyr, a knight, or simply some mythical or recurring storybook animal. If coming as a couple, some great ideas could be a sexy bad wolf chasing a skimpy red riding hood, a king and queen of hearts, and of course the classic knight and damsel. Foods include apples (NOT poisoned), apple pie, gingerbread cookies, just-right porridge and mutton. Serve with Holy Grail Ale!

Remember, the success of your party completely depends on the attitudes of your guests. When thinking of a theme, ask for feedback. Would most of your guests enjoy a Playboy-themed party? An all-bikini theme? What would they consider enjoyable versus lame?

Sexy or not, the idea is for your guests to socialize and have fun, take the edge off after long days at work, and keep up with acquaintances they might not have seen in a while. Adding costumes to the mix adds another level of fun, and allows people to play out characters and situations only available in their imaginations.
