Don’t know what to do on Valentine’s Day? Here’s some inexpensive or free ideas
When Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s easy to get a little stressed. Perhaps you forgot, or you can’t think of anything original to do. Maybe money is tight and you don’t have a clue what you can do on a budget.
Take a relaxing breath and say it with us, “This can be done!” There are plenty of creative, fun and romantic things you can do for Valentine’s Day. Your overtures don’t have to be complex, difficult, expensive or fancy. You simply need to pause from your busy life, take a time out, and spend an evening with your loved one. It’s all about focusing on your partner, remembering why you love each other, and having a fun and intimate time together.
Let’s look at some creative and romantic ideas for this Valentine’s Day
Traditionally, couples go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. But if it falls on a weekday, or you are short of funds or time, that can be difficult. What about staying in? Pick up a high-quality take-out dinner, and get dressed in your very best clothes. We’re talking a suit for you men and a gown or cocktail dress for you ladies.
Put on some wonderful music, enjoy your special dinner and enjoy being together. Share some time on the couch, sharing all the things you love about each other. Giggle and kiss, just like you did when you were first dating.
By the end of the evening, you will wonder why you thought going out would be better than staying in. We guarantee it!
Stay in, with flourishes
Maybe the suit/cocktail dress thing doesn’t really do it for you. Maybe you want something a little spicier. That’s okay. We’ve got the spicy covered, too.
Instead of the fancy dinner and the fancy clothes, consider an imaginative version of this. Dress in sexy costumes and enjoy some role play! For instance, dress as a pirate rogue and a captured Governor’s daughter, and feed each other seafood. Or a vampire and maiden, and feed each other strawberries dipped in chocolate. Sure it’s silly, but if you plan beforehand and make a theme of it, complete with steamy movie, play along in your role and see how the evening turns out!
This doesn’t necessarily mean make a reservation at the fancy local restaurant. Anyone can do that, right? We are talking about an original night out. Head out early in the evening and watch the sunset. Go out later, bundling up if necessary, and find a clear spot to watch the stars. Share a thermos of hot cocoa and a decadent brownie or cupcake.
Go out, with flourishes
The quiet, checking-out-the-stars thing not quite your style? Let’s consider the spicy version of going out. Head out to a bar and pretend you don’t know each other. Get picked up. Do some picking up. Pretend you find each other incredibly sexy, and you simply must have each other that night. Introduce yourselves to each other, touch each other in flirtatious ways, share light kisses on the dance floor. Take each other home and see what happens.
Sometimes the best things we can do for our partners have to do with being thoughtful, remembering the little things, and appreciating how special your partner is. We have some ideas for how you can show your partner just how much he or she means to you. You can certainly use these on Valentine’s Day, but don’t save these ideas just for the big day. Use them all year long, if you want to treat your partner especially well.
- Make a scrapbook, utilizing all the special pictures you surely have of the two of you. Forget about all the artists these days that create works of scrapbooking art. Think about creating a meaningful and special book or album that celebrates your relationship.
- Send your lover a sexy picture. Do this via email, and only to a personal email address (you don’t want your lover opening up your sexy picture in a room full of business associates). Either have a picture done professionally or take it yourself. You might choose to do this photo in the nude, but also consider wearing sexy lingerie.
- Buy some children’s Valentines in different themes (if your partner is a Nascar fan, there are cards in that theme, or if she loves Hello Kitty, you can get those too!) and surprise your partner with the Valentine’s around the house. You might put one in his wallet, or on her car dashboard. Pop one into your husband’s lunch, or your wife’s cosmetic drawer.
Whatever you do, be creative and thoughtful. The best gestures are usually not the ones that come with the highest price tag, but the ones that come from the heart.
